November 16 - 20, 2009

"These plans are based on the best prediction of what we hope to accomplish for this week. Please note, that these plans will vary from time to time because of various interruptions (fire drills, assemblies, etc.) and that we want to make sure students master material, before we move on to new concepts."


Reading:
Monday- Read pages 128 to 129. Use a video short story or familiar story to create a plot diagram.
Tuesday- Continue the suspense story. Lab if possible.
Wednesday- Read 130and 131. Using a picture on screen from the Renaissance, answer the five questions for analyzing a painting.
Thursday- Discuss outcome of the state assessment practice. Lab if possible.
Friday-Read pages 132 to 137. Develop a plot diagram for the story. Students develop five questions for the story on their own.

Language:
Monday- Students will complete a worksheet on recognizing adverbs that modify adjectives.
Tuesday- Students will complete a worksheet to recognize adverbs which modify other adverbs.
Wednesday- Students will use adverbs in sentences. Worksheet
Thursday- Power point on adverbs. (no assignment)
Friday- Quiz on worksheets since Nov 9.

History/Geog:
Monday- We will discuss the Sumerian deities. Students will write a response to the question "Why did the Sumerians have so many gods and lesser spirits?". The new vocabulary words will be Nanana, diety, Shamash, priest, Ishtar and Rabiscu.
Tuesday- We will discuss the rise of Mesopotamian city-states along with their basic structure. Students will compare by written response a city-state to a country. What are the similarities and what are the differences. Vocabulary terms to be added are Sumer, Akkad, Nippur, Babylon, Lagash and Eridu.
Wednesday- Students will review the Code of Hammurabi. They will then create a set of laws that might work for this community.
Thursday- Students will study pictures of Mesopotamian ziggurats, the wheel, irrigation methods and the twelve month calendar based on cycles of the moon. They will describe each.
Friday- Students will take a quiz on vocabulary since Nov 9. Short video

Wednesday - 4.1 Pattern Tables and Expressions pages 170-171 - Homework: page 168-171 # 13-21.
Thursday - 4.2 Scatter Plots and the Coordinate Plane pages 172-175 - Homework: pages 174-175 #9-21
Friday - 4.3 Integers and the Number Line pages 178-181 - Homework: pages 180-181 # 6-8, 14-20, 25-26
