November 9-13, 2009

"These plans are based on the best prediction of what we hope to accomplish for this week. Please note, that these plans will vary from time to time because of various interruptions (fire drills, assemblies, etc.) and that we want to make sure students master material, before we move on to new concepts."

Reading:
Monday- Part 1 State Assessment Practice
Tuesday- Part 2 State Assessment Practice
Wednesday- Veterans Day
Thursday- Part 3 State Assessment Practice
Friday- Short Story Video (no assignment)

Geog/History
Monday- We will study the ancient cuneiform writing system. Vocabulary terms will include cuneiform, stylus, clay tablets and scribe. Students will transcribe the following numbers in our base ten system to Babylonian using cuneiform script. : 237-5,452-890,565-99.
Tuesday- Veterans Day Presentation (no assignment)
Wednesday- There will be no school. It is Veterans Day.
Thursday- We will discuss the Sumerian deities. Students will write a response to the question “Why did the Sumerians have so many gods and lesser spirits?”. The new vocabulary words will be Nanana, diety, Shamash, priest, Ishtar and Rabiscu.
Friday- We will discuss the rise of Mesopotamian city states along with their basic structure. Students will compare by written response a city-state to a country. What are the similarities and what are the differences. Vocabulary terms to be added are Sumer, Akkad, Nippur, Babylon, Lagash, and Eridu.

Thursday - 4.1 Lab Investigating Patterns and Expressions pages 166-167 - Homework #4&5
Friday - 4.1 Pattern Tables and Expressions.

Monday - 3.7 Powers and Exponents part 2 Pages 145-147 - Homework: page 146-147 # 15-19 & 43-48
Tuesday - 3.8 Using Decimals, Fractions, and Percents pages 148-151 - Homework: pages 150-151 # 6-14
Wednesday - Veterans Day
Thursday - Review for test
Friday - Chapter 3 test

Language:

Monday- Students will complete a worksheet on pronouns used as adjectives.
Tuesday- Students will complete a worksheet on how adverbs modify verbs.
Wednesday- Veteran’s Day
Thursday- Students will complete a worksheet on recognizing adverbs that modify adjectives.
Friday- Students will take a quiz on all of the above.
