History

Monday- Study guide to be created and copied. It will then be posted to the blog. We begin our studies of Greece.
Tuesday- We will discuss the island of Crete and Minotaur story. Students will summarize story.
Wednesday- We will study the geographical features of Greece. Students will fill in a map.
Thursday- Students will watch a video on Greek geography and possibly the Minotaur story.
Friday- Test on the study guide and will discuss the “I Have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King

1. Crete- An island in the Mediterranean Sea near the Greek Peninsula. It is the largest Greek island.
2. Knossos- The ancient capital of Crete.
3. Minos- King of ancient Crete.
4. Pindu Mountains- Mountain range in Greece.
5. Olives- A staple crop of the Greeks.
6. Minotaur- Mythical creature which was half man and half bull.
7. Daedalus- Legendary architect of the labyrinth.
8. Labyrinth- A maze in which the Minotaur was trapped.
9. Icarus- In myth, he flew too close to the sun with wings of wax and feathers.
10. Mediterranean Sea- A sea which borders southern Europe, Northern Africa and the Mid East.
11. Earthquake- A shaking of the earth common to the area near Crete.
12. Labyr- A double bladed Cretan Ax.
13. Temperate- It is a name for the climate that is prevalent in Greece.
14. Heraklion – It is the current capital of Crete.
15. Idi Range – It is a mountain range in Crete.
16. Aegean Sea- It is a sea north of Crete and East of Greece.
17. Peninsula-It is an extension of land that is surrounded on three sides by water.
18. Taur- Another name for “bull” in the Cretan culture.
19. Lead- A metal which the Cretans used to first make water and sewer pipes.
20. Europe- It is the continent on which Greece may be found.
