April 5 to 9

"These plans are based on the best prediction of what we hope to accomplish for this week. Please note, that these plans will vary from time to time because of various interruptions (fire drills, assemblies, etc.) and that we want to make sure students master material, before we move on to new concepts."

Team Notes:
1. The sixth grade will be preparing for the World's Fair project in the next couple of months.
2. There will be joint spelling tests for the sixth grade.
3. Sixth graders will be studying figurative language and taking a common assessment shortly.
4. The sixth grade team will offer at least two common summative assessments in each discipline for the remainder of the year.

Reading:

Monday- Read Ta Na E Ka silently starting on page 358.
Tuesday- Students create their own question sheet for the above story. It will be a collaborative effort where a student adds a question to a piece of paper, passes it back for the next student to add a question.
Wednesday- Read The All-American Slurp starting on page 373.
Thursday- Students answer the questions for Applying Your Skills on pages 367 and 381.
Friday- Test on this weeks stories.


Language

Monday- Students will complete Animal and People Alliteration worksheets. They will fill blanks with like sounds. They will listen to some alliteration poems and create one of their own.
Tuesday- Students will highlight sensory words in a story filled with imagery. They will then create a story of their own which appeals to each sense.
Wednesday- Students will write similes for the following: sunset, moon, mountain, bridge, stars, snow, carpet, grass and computer. They will write their similes for each object as the folder for that object is passed from student to student.
Thursday- Students will write metaphors for the objects above and attach them to the folders for each object as they pass..
Friday- Students will take a test on the above. They will identify different passages as an example of alliteration, imagery, metaphor, or simile.


History

Monday- Review the last study guide. Students will hear some of the reasons for the first Punic war with Carthage. They will watch the following video and create five questions for the video and for the information presented by me.. (http://videos.howstuffworks.com/search.php?terms=punic+war&media=video). Students will add their questions to a common paper to form a quiz.
Tuesday- Students will read material on the second Punic war, listen to information given and watch a video on the above link. Students will describe the feats of Hannibal.
Wednesday- Students will listen to a presentation on the third Punic war and watch a related video using the above link. Students will write on the determination of the Romans.
Thursday-We will discuss the changes to the Roman way of life. Students will list the changes during the conversation.
Friday- Test on the last study guide.

Monday- Chapter 8 review starting page 411
Tuesday- Accelerated Math, P2 practice
Wednesday- Test
Thursday- Accelerated Math, P2 practice
Friday- Geometric Figures on pages 422 and 423

Math 2:
Monday- Square Roots on page 408
Tuesday- Accelerated Math, P2 practice
Wednesday- Test
Thursday- Accelerated Math, P2 practice
Friday- Pythagorean Theorem on pages 414 and 415
