April 12- 16

"These plans are based on the best prediction of what we hope to accomplish for this week. Please note, that these plans will vary from time to time because of various interruptions (fire drills, assemblies, etc.) and that we want to make sure students master material, before we move on to new concepts."

Reading:
Monday- Read Aaron’s Gift
Tuesday-Students will list the main characters of Monday’s story, detail the plot, themes and define the highlighted words.
Wednesday- Read “ The Dog of Pompeii”.
Thursday- Students will list the main characters of Wednesday’s story, detail the plot, themes and define the highlighted words.
Friday- Video Short Story (no assignment)


Language:
Monday- Students will learn the meaning of Homonyms and create some of their own.
Tuesday- Students will learn the meaning of antonyms and create some of their own.
Wednesday- There will be a review of nouns, pronouns, subjects and predicates.
Thursday- There will be a review of verbs, adverbs, prepositions and conjunctions.
Friday- Students will begin reading collecting information on his/her chosen country for the Fair. This is a cross curricular project.

Note: Accelerate Math Worksheets and P2 Integrated Practice will be administered during the week.

History:
Note: After covering the primary issues each day, we will view one of the power point selections for Rome.
Monday- We will investigate the changes in Rome at the end of the Punic wars. Students will list the consequences for issues of farm debt, unemployment and leadership. We will create the next study guide.
Tuesday- The topic for today will be the leadership vacuum which followed the Punic wars. This investigation will include Marius and Sulla and the initial destruction of the Republic.
Wednesday- We will investigate the slavery issue following the Punic wars which changed the fabric of society and initiated social changes.
Thursday- We will discuss the filling of the power vacuum by the primary individuals associated with the First Triumvirate. Students will note the characteristics of Julius Caesar, Crassus and Pompey.
Friday- Video on Rome (no assignment)

5. Province- Area ruled by a Roman governor.

9. Virgil- He was a Roman poet who wrote of old Roman values.
10. Crassus- Rich member of the First Triumvirate.
11. Pompey- Known as Pompey the great (general) and member of the first Triumvirate.
12. Julius Caesar- Popular politician of the First Triumvirate.
13. Dictator- Ruler with absolute power.
14. Concrete- Building material created by the Romans.
15. Appian Way- A road built by Romans leading to all parts of the Empire.
16. Gladiator- A Roman slave trained to fight to the death.
17. Gladius- A short Roman sword.
18. Rubicon- River as a border which legions may not cross.

1. Point of view-position from which an observation is made.
2. Elevation- the distance from the surface of the earth.
3. Altitude- the height above sea level.
4. Resolution- the eyes ability to see that two tiny objects are separate.
5. Location- A place described in terms of other objects around it.
6. Latitude- Lines running east and west on the globe.
7. Longitude-lines running north and south on the globe.
8. Equator- the longest line of latitude that runs around the exact center of the Earth: 0 degrees latitude.
9. Rotation- the motion of a body turning in a circle.
10. Axis- the imaginary shaft on which a body turns.
