Reading:
Monday-
-Entry task. Grating means irritating or annoying. Lauded means praised highly. Write a sentence using the first word and then another sentence using the second.
-Read “Brother” on page 473. Prepare to answer oral questions on the story.
-AR reading (you may start this after the entry task)
Standard: 1.1 Use word recognition skills to comprehend text. 3.4 Read for literary experience.

Tuesday-
-Entry task. Acquaintance means friend; or someone known casually. Precision means exactness or accuracy. Apt, means skilled or capable. Use all three words in one paragraph in the proper context.
-We will review the characteristics of a fable.
-We will watch a video, which contains several fables. The video will be stopped after each one for discussion.
Standard: Read for literary experience in a variety of genres.

Wednesday-
-Entry task. Change each of the following sentences from singular to plural or plural to singular. 1) The pickle juice runs in streams down his legs. 2) He could count on very few punishments.
-Read “The Land I Lost”. Listen to the audio while following along in the text.
-Answer the following questions: How is the river important in the lives of the people in the village? What four animals do the villagers fear the most? What was the most surprising about Lan and Trung’s story? Why?
Standard: 2.2 Understand and apply knowledge of text components to comprehend text.

Thursday-
-Entry task. Desperate means having a great and urgent need. Avenge means to get even for. Use desperate in sentence in proper context. Do the same for avenge.
-Answer the following questions: What is the author’s purpose? What values and feelings to you share with Nhuong’s people? Is the story about Trung, Lan and the crocodile a tall tale, or is it totally factual? Why does the author shift his point of view from first person to third person?
-Share answers to the above questions.
Standard: 1.2 Use vocabulary to comprehend text.

Monday-
-Entry task. Explain how the word, book, is used in each of the following sentences: The music was good in that show we saw last night, but the book was awful. Erin said he had learned patience through studying the book of nature.

-Entry task. Copy the following sentences with the correct usage. The chess club (holds, hold) its meetings on Thursday’s. The crowd (is, are) leaving the stadium for their cars. Our team usually wins all of (its, their ) tournaments.
-L5. Common Sense and Context.
-Students will be given five words. In pairs they will have dictionaries. One pair will write one definition for the first word through the fifth word. The papers will then be passed to another pair of students who will add a different meaning to the word on that paper.

- Entry task. Find the circumference and area of a circle with a diameter of 10.

- Given key words, define them as you watch the video.
- Stop the video in ten to fifteen minute intervals for discussion.

Thursday-

-Entry task. Sketch your hand. You can trace around it, however, shade it for depth.
-Read Art of the 1700’s.
-Define the words Rococo and etching.
-Summarize what you can find in these pages about each of the following artists: Antoine Watteau, Elisabeth Vigee-Lebrun, Jean-Baptiste Simeon Chardin. Make sure you include their masterpieces.
