Reading:
Monday- 2.1.5 Make, confirm and revise prediction based on prior knowledge and evidence from the text.
Read “What a Character” starting on page 206. Answer the following questions: 1) Was it good thing that Takamoto was placed in an internment camp? Why or why not? 2) Name the accomplishments of Takamoto. List each of them. 3) Name the cartoons that have meant something to your life. 4) What does Takamoto’s success say about overcoming injustice? 5) Try to draw your favorite animated character.
Tuesday-2.2.3 Use knowledge of the situation, characters actions, motivations, feelings and physical attributes to determine character traits.
The way a writer reveals the personality of a character and brings him or her to life is known as characterization. Characters have qualities such as: courage, laziness, ambition, vanity, generosity, etc. Pick three stories that we have read since the beginning of the year. Within the stories, pick at least two characters. Write their names on your paper and list their character qualities underneath. You will be asked to state the stories, the characters and their traits.
Wednesday- 2.2.4 Identify and use text written in the text organizational structures of cause and effect.
Read “From Bud Not Buddy” on page 238. Answer the following questions: 1) How does Bud feel after he finds out he has to move to a new foster home? 2) What events in Bud’s life are similar to events in your life? 3) What is different? 4) How do these similarities and differences make you feel about Bud? 5) Why does the main character want to be called Bud? 6) One of the unusual phrases in the story is “I’ll be dog-goned”. List some of the other unusual phrases in the story.
Thursday- 2.4.7 Infer and explain beliefs and assumptions while citing text based reasons.
Today we will search for inferences. An inference is a kind of guess based on evidence and your own experience. In this way you can recognize what the author is not directly telling you. Search the last three stories. Create a three column organizer with the story titles on top. Below each, list the possible inferences you find. Include the evidence from the story. Be ready afterwards to share your findings. You may work in partners.
Friday-
Today we will start a library novel. Possibly “House on Hawthorn Hill”. After each chapter questions will be asked and verbal discussions will be initiated by me.
Language:
Monday-2.4.2 Identify and explain the author’s purpose
We will read passages today for the purpose of identifying the main points. The passages will vary, therefore the structure will vary. This will be lesson five on page 41 of the skill book. The remainder of the time will be reserved for AR work.
Tuesday- 2.4.2 Identify and explain the author’s purpose
We will identify the main points of passages concerning the Russian Revolution and Roberto Clemente. These will be found on p47L7 of the skill book. The remainder of the time will be used for AR work.
Wednesday- 2.1.2 Understand how to create mental imagery
In lesson eight we will be taking up the topic of images. You will identify the physical and mental images in selected passages.
Thursday- 2.1.2 Understand how to create mental imagery
Lesson nine will require that you respond to images. Fifteen minutes will be given for completion which will be followed by discussion and correction. The remain part of the period will be reserved for AR.
Friday-
A test will be given today on images.
History (Seventh Grade):
Monday-5.4.1 Examines multiple factors of Rome
Read page 322 to 326. Discuss the reasons for Rome’s fall. Complete section two review. Create the organizer suggested on page 326 to highlight Rome’s legacies. You are also to list the main reasons for the fall of Rome as you see it.
Tuesday- 5.4.1 Examines multiple factors of Rome
Read 328 to 324. The focus will be the emperor Justinian and the Byzantine empire. Complete the section review.
Wednesday-
Chapter 9 test (summative)
Thursday- 4.1.1 analyzes a major historical event
Read section one, of “The First Christians” on page 342. Students will take turns reading aloud. Discussions will be initiated by me. A report will be written on Paul of Tarsus. The report should include biographical information and accomplishments. Reports will be shared.
Friday- 4.2 Understands and analyzes causal effects in history.
A report will be written about Jesus of Nazarath. Refer to page 346. Include all biographical information and main events. A short video will be shown to reinforce.
History (Sixth):
Monday- 4.2 Understands and analyzes causal effects in history
We will read from page 100 to page 102. Highlight the issue of Jewish rebellion during Roman times with the story of Masada. Students should summarize that story then complete section three review. I will emphasize the outcome of the rebellion as it is related to the diaspora during Roman times. This material directly relates to the CBA that is to come in the spring.
Tuesday-
The chapter 3 activities on page 104 will completed, corrected and discussed today.
Wednesday-
You can prepare a study guide for yourself today with regard to chapter 3. The study guide should list explanations for figures in history and important dates. This study guide may be used on the chapter three test tomorrow.
Thursday-
Chapter Three test. This is summative.
Friday- Understands and analyzes causal effects in history.
Read pages 116 to 123. The focus will be early Greece. You are to sketch the map on page 120 by freehand. Answer the questions: 1) Which islands were home to Greek colonies 2) On which continents could Greek colonies be found?
