Reading:
Monday-2.1.3 State the main idea of a passage and provide several details supporting it.
Read “Eleven” starting on page 247. This story is about what it means to be eleven years old. After reading it, write an essay on what it means to be your age. Aren’t you close to eleven? Do not include things that you do not want shared in class. Each of you will get a chance to read your essay.
Tuesday- 22.3 Use knowledge of situation, characters actions, motivations, feelings and physical attributes to determine characters traits.
Read “The King of Mazy May” starting on page 257. In your own words characterize Walt. Describe his personality. What is the conflict in this story? What is the climax of this story? What is the resolution for this story? We will discuss your responses.
Wednesday- review
This is a work day. You must complete the Respond and Think Critically pages for page 251 and page 267. We will check answers at the end of the period.
Thursday-2.1 Demonstrate evidence of reading comprehension.
Today we will continue reading “House on Hawthorne Hill”.

Monday-2.2.3 Explain the influence of setting on character and plot
We will try to understand what setting a scene means. It involves providing words and pictures of the place and of the characters. If you visualize these descriptions you will be able to follow what is going on in the story and possibly guess what comes next. We will read a passage and then extract the images. L11P58
Tuesday-2.1.2 understand how to create mental imagery
We will investigate the idea of imagery again today. We will look for sensory impressions. In other words, impressions related to the five senses (see, touch, smell, etc). You will read a passage and answer the questions at the end of it. L12P59

mood, meaning of prose, poetry, and/or
drama based on the author’s word choice
and use of figurative language.
Words, phrases and sentences that are not meant to be interpreted exactly in their word-for-word, or literal sense are examples of figurative language. That is what we will be talking about and writing about today. You will have to determine whether or not something is figurative or not. L13P61.

History (Sixth):
Monday- 3.2.2 Understands the characteristics of cultures in the world from the past or in the
present.
Today I will tell you about the Minotaur. You will write down key words as I tell the story. I will take the time to spell the ones I think are most important. You will use these key words to put the traditionally verbal story in words and paragraphs. If I am absent, your substitute teacher will direct you to create a story on your own that may explain why seven boys and seven girls were taken to the island of Crete and never seen again. This would be your own fictional creation. Stories may be read aloud at the end of class.
Tuesday-4.2.2 Understands and analyzes how cultures and cultural groups in ancient
civilizations contributed to world history.
Today we will read section two starting on page 125 and ending on page 130. Answer the following questions: 1) Who were the Helots? 2) Why did Athenians choose officials by lottery? 3) How did the Greek nobles gain power? 4) Why was Solon popular among some Athenian farmers and unpopular with others?
Wednesday-4.2.2 Understands and analyzes how cultures and cultural groups in ancient
civilizations contributed to world history.
I will share the story of Spartan development and cultural uniqueness. Students will jot down key words during the story. I will indicate the words that are important. After the discussion, you will write a letter to your fictitional six year old nephew, telling him what to expect when he reaches his seventh birthday. If I am absent, you will still write that letter using pages 124 to page 130 as your resource. These letters will be read aloud during the last half of the class.
Thursday-review
Today is a work day. You will use each of the words highlighted in yellow from page 116 to 130 in a sentence of your own which will make others understand the meaning of the word a little better. You may not use more than one of the words in a sentence. Your sentences will be shared and read aloud during the last half of the period.
Friday-

History (Seventh):
Monday- review
We will review section 1 by completing the review on page 350. You may skip question number seven but take great care with number 6. These will be read aloud in class today.
Tuesday-4.2.2 Understands and analyzes how cultures and cultural groups in ancient
civilizations contributed to world history.
We will examine the history of the Christian Church in section two. We will focus on how it grew and organized. Read pages 352 to page 356. You are to complete only questions one, two and three on page 356.
Wednesday-4.2.2 Understands and analyzes how cultures and cultural groups in ancient
civilizations contributed to world history.
Read the biography of Saint Augustine on page 357. Rewrite the biography in your own words and in abbreviated form. Write each of the highlighted words from pages 352 to 356 on your paper. Define them in your own words. There will be a short verbal quiz in the last half of the period. I will give definitions and you will volunteer answers without looking at your work.
Thursday-
The video”Quo Vadis” is in the VHS machine at the rear of the room. We will watch the next segment of the movie for about twenty-five minutes. During that time you will write down details you observed in the video that are related to the actions of Nero and the history of the Christian movement.
Friday-
No School. Veterans Day
